Registration and Request to Contact Adult Adopted Person

Effective July, 2003, Georgia law was changed to allow a birth parent to request a search for his/her child who was placed for adoption, provided the child has reached 21 years of age or older.

Upon receiving a Registration and Request to Contact Adult Adopted Person form, the Georgia Adoption Reunion Registry refers to their database to determine whether the adopted person has submitted a Consent to Contact or an Affidavit of Non Disclosure. If the Reunion Registry does not have either registration, as search can begin for the adult adopted person upon payment of the required fee.

If you are a parent or sibling of a deceased birth parent you may register and request to contact your biological family member, provided that your biological family member is over the age of 21 years, and the adoption was finalized in Georgia. You must provide documentation that the birth parent is deceased.

Please complete the "Registration and Request to Contact Adult Adopted Person" form. In the bottom section, please write in the first person, as if you were speaking directly to your biological family member. Also, make sure to include the following information:

  • A physical description of yourself
  • Your current family situation
  • Your occupation
  • Your motivation for searching
    • What you hope to gain from doing a search and making contact
    • Your expectations
  • Information about your relationship with your family members
  • Whether or not your family is aware that you are conducting a search
  • Any other information you would like to share with your biological family member

If you need more space, please feel free to write a letter of introduction on a separate sheet of paper. Please return this form along with a payment of $300 via check payable to Families First, money order, or Visa/Mastercard.

Once we have received your registration and request form for a search, along with your payment, your search will be initiated as soon as possible. Most searches are completed within 3-6 months. Please be aware that the fee for conducting a search for your biological child is non-refundable, regardless of outcome.
